It’s interactive, fun, and you can do it with your friends, forming groups to code together. You can even show your progress through the points and badges that you earn. Codecademy is one of the best and most user-friendly coding tutorial websites out there, which never turns into a chore. We have used for learning HTML, CSS and Javascript and and we loved it!

Site Pros

  • Totally free online courses, to study whenever

  • Very friendly and intuitive for those without any web skills
  • Online courses are simple, intuitive and fun, letting anybody learn the ropes easily
  • Large amount of things to learn, from different web language skills, projects and APIs
  • Progress bars on each course, so you can see how well you’re doing
  • Coding mistakes are highlighted on the site, so that you can see why what you’ve done is wrong, and learn how to fix it

Site Cons

  • No certificates, verified or otherwise, for completing courses
  • Many recommend Codeacademy in conjunction with other, more typical, code learning programs- users would struggle to become experts with just Codeacademy
  • Some users complain that the basic rules of computer programming language aren’t properly explained– users are told what to do, but not why that should work
  • Lessons vary in quality depending on the creator

Other Tips

  • The site forums are a great place to go if you have a problem or question on one of the courses- and with over a million members, there’ll probably be someone there that can help you
