The best free things to do this weekend

The weekend: it’s just two day and nights but it can feel daunting as it approaches. It’s so important to make the most of your days off! Well, luckily for you, here are five things you can do on the cheap whilst still getting out and about this weekend, exploring London. Unless you are itching to get away from the city that is. In which case you should check out our top ten ways to feel as though you’ve escaped London, without leaving zone 6.
#1 | Openfest | Barbican | Free
Get inspired by the Openfest at the Barbican this Saturday with a series of events that are aimed at the whole family. Events will include live performances, film screenings and interactive art installations.
When: Saturday 8th October (10am – 7pm).

#2 | Peckham Flea Market | The Peckham Pelican | Free
Get kitted out for the winter by browsing the wares of six hand-picked marketeers and independents. You’ll be able to pick up everything from new or vintage clothing, trinkets and accessories. There’s also eating and drinking to enjoy within the Pelican itself.
When: Saturday 8th October (12pm – 6pm).

#3 | Society of Imaginary Friends Soiree | Karamel Restaurant | Free
Musicians, poets and comedians will gather together at this creative hub for The Society of Imaginary Friends to try out their latest work. It’s family friendly, however if you are without little ones, there are DJs playing tunes until the late hours.
When: Friday 7th October (7pm – late).

#4 | 1066 Pop-Up Encampment | Hyde Park Corner | Free
It’s a whopping 950 years since the Battle of Hastings. Wanna know what it was like? Well head down to this re-enactment put on by English Heritage. Check out some weapons, try out a few Saxon delicacies, play some games with the soldiers and give some smithing a go.
When: Saturday 8th October (from 10am).

#5 | Clangers, Bagpuss & Co | V&A Museum of Childhood | Free
It’s the last weekend to check out this blast from the past. The Clangers, Bagpuss & Co exhibition is running at the V&A Museum of Childhood until Sunday, so not long to check it out if you haven’t already!
