Everything you need to know
Guest Post by Hannah Madison
Wellness vacations can change your life for the better, if only because they force you to stop and take stock of your life and act as a sort of reset button. I tend to find that on a regular vacation, I end up rushing around trying to see as much as I can, and while that’s not usually a problem, it does mean that half the time I come home and feel more worn out than I was when I left. Have you ever heard the idiom, “I need a vacation from vacation”?
That’s why every now and then, I try to focus on wellness, putting my mind and my body first. The only problem is that wellness travel is surprisingly expensive, which is why I recommend creating your own wellness travel experience instead. Here’s what you need to know.
How to create your own wellness travel experience.
#1 | Spend some time reading
Reading is a great way to expand your mind, and as this is a wellness vacation, you should read what you enjoy reading. Even just chilling with the latest Dan Brown novel is a good use of your time if you want to read for pleasure. Alternatively, consider either self-help/non-fiction books on a subject that you’re passionate about or religious/philosophical texts.
#2 | Practice yoga
If you’re into wellness then you’re probably already a reasonably seasoned yogi, but I find that a lot of people forget to stick to their routines on vacation, which is understandable. Sure, you might not be able to take a yoga mat or an exercise ball in your carry on, but one of the best things about yoga is that you can practice anywhere and with no equipment. So add some extra stretching poses in your routine to make up for the cramped hours on the plane.
#3 | Plan a cruise
One of the best ways to build wellness into your travelling is to find methods of transport that are slow and leisurely. That’s why I think you should plan a cruise for next year (2021)! There are different types of cruise providers out there on the market offering cruises of different durations, so I’d recommend taking at least a week if you can so that there’s plenty of time for you to relax and find yourself.
#4 | Surround yourself with nature
For me, I always find that spending time with nature helps me to take a step back from modern life and just to focus on myself in the here and now. Whether you head off to Alaska, go camping in a national park or simply treat yourself to a staycation, surrounding yourself with nature is one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental health. If you feel up to it, you can try creating walking sticks yourself using a suitable and sturdy piece of wood and the best camping multi tool, or one of those purpose-built camping knives.
Conclusion
Now that you know a few of my top tips for creating your own wellness travel experience, it’s over to you so that you can make your wellness vacation a reality. All you need to do now is to start booking things and then you’ll be ready to pack your bags and head off. Happy travels!
