Canary Wharf Screen - BrokeInLondon

Canary Wharf Screen

As you may have already noticed, during the past years, various London Underground stations have being transformed into pop up art galleries. London Underground‘s associations with visual art began in 1908 and hopefully never stopped. We’ve seen great artworks inside and outside the tube stations, as well as on posters and billboards. London Underground’s Art on the Underground (previously known as Platform for Artwas launched in 2000 and aimed to continue the company’s association with the arts and to provide a world-class programme of contemporary art that enriches the journeys of the passengers and the whole Tube environment.

From 13 December 2012 to 5 March 2013, Canary Warf station is hosting a season of films from leading contemporary and historical artists from the National Archive. The programme is called Canary Wharf Screen and it’s an screening programme initiated by Art on the Underground in collaboration with Film and Video Umbrella, Animate Projects, LUX and BFI. Be prepared for a visual trip in time as you will see films and documentaries dating back to the birth of cinema but also contemporary experimental works by some of the most talented and famous British film and video artists. Therefore if you pass through Canary Warf station between 8am – 8pm don’t forget to spend some time to see this great free show which takes place in the ticket hall. Check the website for further updates before visiting the screen.
