Growing up in the states, block parties were a regular part of my summer. I associate block parties with warm summer days, BBQ, maybe a slip-n-slide or two, lots of friends and ice lollies. Block party days were definitely the best days.

Hewett Street Block Party website, happening this Saturday 21st of September, is the adult version of everything great about block parties: food, music, games, workshops… did I say food? Best part: it raises money for an incredible children’s charity, the Hackney Pirates. You can eat, drink and be merry all in the name of helping the children.

This year, the delicious food line-up includes:

  • Bao London: deep fried bao (delicious filled buns)
  • Coins Junkyard Snack Bar: corn dogs, tator tots and other deep-fried treats
  • La Grotta Ices: homemade ice cream
  • Motherclucker: fried chicken and biscuits
  • Rawduck: their famous Reuben and other sandwiches
  • Rockwell House Rooftop Bar & BBQ: BBQ

If you’re a total foodie you’ll also see the names of James Lowe (of the Young Turks) and Brad McDonald (of Casa Negra) on the list, both renowned London chefs.

Not to mention, there are tons of things to check out during the day, from a live photo-booth to a temporary tattoo parlour (um, awesome), there’s bound to be something to tickle your fancy:

Last, but certainly not least, you can enter the charity tombola (or raffle for the confused ex-pats reading this post) to win prizes from the likes of Modern Pantry, Ace Hotel and more. The weatherman predicts sunshine and warmth over the weekend, so why not spend one last weekend outside?

For full line-up of food, music and activities and to register for free entry, visit Hewett Street Block Party website.

and this is what happened last year..
