More London Free Festival’s Theatre Season 2015

London’s Free Open-Air Theatre Season returns

Are you wondering what to do with your free time this month? Do you want to try something else than lounging in a park without spending a dime? Discover open-air theatre!

The Scoop at More London is a sunken amphitheatre located on the More London Riverside, minutes away from London Bridge station; and over the summer it hosts a Free Festival. Running from June until September, More London Free Festival presents an exciting programme of music, sport, theatre and film successively. After two months of music gigs and sport screenings, The Scoop now welcomes award-winning theatre company Gods & Monsters every week from Wednesday to Sunday throughout August for a double bill of action-packed plays.

What’s on

This season will feature new takes on classical texts. First up is Captain Show-Off!, an adaptation by Phil Willmott of the Roman comedies of Plautus, it is a joyous family show that brings to life a bustling Roman town, complete with sing-a-longs and slapstick. As the evening draws in, audiences will be treated to the powerful Women of Troy, adapted from the Greek tragedies of Euripides by Lisa Kuma, this incarnation tells the tale of the courageous women on opposing sides of the Trojan War.

The Scoop

The setting at The Scoop is breathtaking, with London Bridge standing out amongst the no-less-stunning modern architecture, and once sat in the amphitheatre it’s easy to imagine you’re an Ancient Rome citizen watching Plautus’ newest effort!

And if you needed a cherry on the cake, you’ll be happy to know that beside The Scoop stands London Riviera, a colourful food and drink pop-up that offers, among other tasty treats, excellent cocktails and summery salads (we recommend the Crisp Apple, Pomegranate & Mint Salad, served with green chilli, lemon & roasted pine nuts, it’s yummy).

Inspired by French Riviera chic and Miami glamour, London Rivera has been garnering critical acclaim and was described by Grazia as “the must visit pop-up of the season”.

Free culture, affordable food, delicious drinks and picturesque surroundings – what more can one ask for this summer?
