Bikes, beer, art and fashion at Spin Xmas
Do you love fashion, design, art, and innovation? Do you like great food and drink, music and perhaps even a bit of cycling? Then head for Spin Xmas 2014 in Shoreditch this coming weekend.
Spin festivals are about cycling and everything that comes with it – bikes, fashion, accessories, bags, lights, tools, art, illustration, photography and more (It’s not a spinning class, just for the record).
Spin aims to showcase independent brands and producers who are doing entirely fresh and creative things and pushing the boundaries of the ever-growing and diversifying cycling industry. You’ll see products you won’t see anywhere else. Exhibitors are coming from around the UK and across Europe (products from Denmark, the Netherlands, Estonia and Czech Republic all feature at Spin Xmas 2014). You’ll meet people who are full of ideas and passionate about what they are doing, whichever area of the cycling industry they’re in.
Spin’s festive show last year was a collaboration with the London Coffee Festival – in 2014, the emphasis is on beer! Craft Beer Rising will be laying on an excellent selection (as well as mulled wine and cider, in keeping with the festive theme).
- There is high-end cycling fashion from the likes of Huez*, Bee Clothing, FINDRA, Henrichs and Riding Hood, bike bags from Alban and Hill and Ellis, performance gear from spoxe and Shutt Velo Rapide.
- There is brilliant photography from Geoff Waugh, a flax composite bike by James Dart, and a one-off HOY track bike made Shand Cycles from Scotland.
- Shinola Detroit, who’ve just opened their first European store on Newburgh Street in Soho, will be exhibiting bikes and more (they also make watches, leather goods and pet accessories. Will we see the pet accessories at Spin? Come and find out …)
The mention of Transport for London may not set your pulse racing but they will be at Spin Xmas for a very important reason: they have recently announced plans to remodel the notoriously dangerous Old Street Roundabout.
The people in charge of this project will be at Spin Xmas on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December and they want to hear your views. So if you’ve ever cycled around Old Street roundabout, you’ll know this is a big issue for cyclists in London! On top of all this, you’ll find an entire room of cycling-themed art and illustration hosted by Spoke London.
Spin is for cyclists of all kinds, from committed club riders to casual Sunday afternoon dawdlers. It’s about helping cyclists to get more from what they love doing, whether that’s through safety, technology or just looking good on a bike. It’s also about good food and drink and hanging out with your friends. So it’s even worth coming if you’ve never sat on a bike in your entire life…
It all kicks off at 6pm on Friday. Entry is free and you don’t need a ticket to get in – but at the busier times ticket holders will have priority. Register for free tickets here and see you down there!
