Two Free Screenings by Rowan Arts - Broke in London

Two Free Screenings by Rowan Arts

Two free screenings followed by discussions

If you’re a fan of documentaries you should pay attention to this, because Rowan Arts will be holding two great free screenings next week! First on Monday 1st of July at 7pm – 8.30pm they will show Ken Loach’s acclaimed documentary The Spirit of ‘45  at the Islington Assembly Hall followed by the screening of John Rogers documentary documentary Make Your Own Damn Art on Friday 5th of July.

The Spirit of ‘45

The film is an impassionate documentary about how the spirit of unity during the war years in Britain helped to create a vision of a fairer and united society. True to his social realistic style of filmmaking, Ken Loach uses footage from British regional and national archive, alongside sound recordings and contemporary interviews to create a rich political and social narrative. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion until 9.30pm which will be lead by artist Bobby Baker, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Emily Thornberry MP as well as the Leader of Islington Council Catherine West and will be followed by drinks.

Make Your Own Damn Art

As part of the Islington Exhibits, Rowan Arts are hosting a screening of the John Rogers documentary ‘Make Your Own Damn Art’ about artist Bob and Roberta Smith. Being one of Britain’s most recognized artists, Bob and Roberta Smith’s humorous polemic art works are displayed in the Gardian and major galleries as well as in small unheralded spaces. The film follows the artist  for almost 3 years, and provides an insight on the role of art in society today. The screening will take place on Friday 5th of July at 7pm at the Old Fire Station, 84 Mayton Street, N7 and will be followed by a Q & A session with the director and the artist. It is a free event but advanced booking is essential!
