Can’t get worse? More disruption set for UK’s worst rail operator

In terms of transport, London has generally got it pretty good. Most of the time, it offers easy travel to great locations across the six zones of central London. However, if the past few months (and a few hilarious Twitter accounts) are anything to go by, Southern Rail have been good for nothing but a delayed services and being the butt of a few jokes. And by the looks of recent news, things are only going to get worse.
From the 8th – 12th August, guards working for Southern plan to stage another strike. Announced by RMT Union last week, the strike is said to be due to a long-running dispute over the future of roles within the company. The RMT general secretary says that the strike is due to “the arrogance and inaction of Govia Thameslink (the company that run Southern)… who have made it clear they have no interest in resolving the dispute”. In response, Govia Thameslink have stated that “it is unacceptable that passengers were made to suffer five days of disruption… [and] are offering all our onboard staff a job, as valued members of our organisation.” Unless a resolution is reached soon, it is likely that the strikes will go ahead.
It comes after 341 services a day were suspended this month. This is due to an emergency timetable being introduced to help relieve the strain on services. So you might want to get prepared, just like this guy:
When: It is likely to take place between 8th and 12th of August.
Where: Check the Southern Twitter feed for details of services affected.
