Shopping with festival vibes at State of Independence Market

Hackney the hub for creativity and the area with the most creative startups and artists in Europe no less, welcomes a new market: State of Independence. Organised and curated by cultural journal Let’s Be Brief (LBB), the State of Independence Market features a selection of emerging creative brands from fashion to interiors, vintage, art, to street food. Not to mention the SOI Rum Bar, plus guest DJ’s and workshops.

Taking place the last weekend of each month until September, the market is housed in Hackney Downs Studios – a workspace for hundreds of creative businesses that include a bike shop, florist, gallery and even a gym.

What’s on

Being huge music fans, LBB are also resident DJ’s on Dalston’s NTS Radio. Each month the market is sound-tracked by some of London’s finest DJ’s, including CDR, Dimensions Soundsystem, Newton Dunbar (The Four Aces) and Colectivo Futuro, plus a few unannounced special guests. All of which promises shopping with festival vibes.

Mamas and Papas can bring the young ones to July’s ‘Storybook workshop’ with illustrator Marylou Faure and Celebrate My Library, where youngsters will create a storybook that will later be published.

And if you’re in the mood for a spot of reflection, State of Independence attendees can also sign up for free workshops such as life coaching and yoga. Activities vary from month to month, so visit the State of Independence website or follow on twitter to stay up to date with the latest.
