Tips to Help You Save for Your Dream Wardrobe When Living in London

Even if you’re on a budget, you can still get your dream wardrobe

Guest post by Zoe Price

As anyone who has ever visited London will know, it is a city where the cost of living is high, and yet, so are the standards when it comes to fashion! If you are living in London, it can be hard to ignore all the fabulous shops and the well-dressed people, and you can find yourself longing to splurge on beautiful designer clothing to wear out and about in the city, but never seem to be able to save any money up to actually do it. London isn’t the only city like this, either, and so whether you are trying to look stylish and have fun in London, Paris, New York or any other high cost of living, fashionable city, here are some tips to help you save more money that you can put towards the wardrobe of your dreams.

Walk More

There are various ways that you can save money on using the transport systems in major cities like London, but nothing will save you money more than walking or cycling instead of using them. Even in a big city, you don’t normally need to travel too far in your everyday life, and so replacing your commute by underground train (or Metro, or Subway) or bus with walking or riding a bike is usually possible, and you can also think about walking more to get around in your social life, too.

Walking can also give you a free option for entertainment, as you can take a walk with friends to explore a different part of the city or enjoy the parks on a weekend afternoon without spending any money. As you include more walking in your life, you can also feel good about the fact that as well as saving up, you are also keeping fit and helping the environment.

You can put the money you save on transport towards buying some gorgeous designer sneakers that will make you feel even more like going everywhere on foot, such as the beautiful collection of Gucci sneakers.

Try the Gig Economy for Some Extra Work

Another good way to save up is to make some extra money on the side of your main job. There are all kinds of services in London and other big cities that people can work for in their spare time, so even if you don’t have a car to become a rideshare driver (the best known of the gig economy jobs), you can find side work doing things like restaurant deliveries by bike, running errands for people, or even walking their pets. Not only can this help you earn some extra money to spend on luxuries, it can also be a good way to keep busy without spending cash, and you can meet new people, too.

Sell Stuff You Don’t Need

If you are upgrading your wardrobe with all new designer pieces, then you may find you have a lot of older designer bags, accessories, shoes and other items that you don’t need anymore. You may also have other items you don’t have need of now, but which could be worth money, like old phone handsets or computers, that you have accumulated over the years. There are lots of ways to sell your unwanted items, whether you go down the eBay route or look to sell locally using things like Facebook groups, and you can also find companies online who buy things like old phones and computers to recycle. Not only can you make money this way to go towards the new things you want, but you can also free up some space at home. With the high cost of living in London and other major cities, most people don’t have room to spare for things they don’t use anymore, so this is another big advantage to having a clear out and selling anything of value.

Prepare Your Own Stuff

Another easy way to save is to stop buying coffee, sandwiches and other stuff out during the day when you are at work, and prepare your own lunch and flasks of coffee at home instead. You can really save a lot per week by doing this, and you can also use it as an opportunity to try and have a healthier diet, by planning nutritious, tasty meals for yourself.

These are just a few ways you can save or make more money, and if you try them, you may well find your dream wardrobe is soon within reach. It is definitely worth making savings in these small ways so that you can step out in style!
