This seems to be the English Summer that never ends…so I’ve filled August up with more outdoor events! Take advantage of the continued sunshine by taking a tour of the City’s newest public art installations and enjoy the warm summer evenings with free theatre at the Scoop. The rain will be back before we know it.
London Contemporary Music Festival: Peckham | Until August 4th
We all know and love Frank’s…the famous café on the roof of a carpark in Peckham. That carpark is now home to London’s first Contemporary Music Festival. A surprising venue with an incredible lineup, it’s one festival not to be missed!
Brixton Splash: Brixton Market | Sunday, August 4th
A free street festival held at Brixton Market and the surrounding streets. Enjoy the continued good weather with food and music from around the world!
Dalston House: Dalston – Until August 4th
The Barbican’s Dalston House, an incredible interactive public art installation, closes on Sunday. Get over there to experience the gravity defying magic for yourself.
Free Theatre at the Scoop: The Scoop, Southbank | August 7th-September 1st
Shows for both children and adults are being staged throughout the month of August. This seems to be the summer that never ends so travel down to the Southbank for some free outdoor theatre.
Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 Exhibition: Royal Geographic Society | Until August 18th
Professional and amateur photographers alike submitted photographs to be considered for the Travel Photographer of the Year award. The exhibition showcases the winners of the competition.
Melt Yourself Down Concert: National Theatre’s Propstore | August 17th, 9pm
Listen to a unique blend of punk, jazz and psychedelia at the National Theatre’s pop-up café/performance venue on the Southbank.
Sculpture in the City – Month of August
For the third year in a row, the City has commissioned pieces from some of the most celebrated contemporary artists of our time. The pieces are brilliant, often unexpected and sure to please. Artists include Shirazeh Houshiary, Antony Gormley and Keith Coventry.

Step inside an exhibition of artworks made entirely from paper…you might even spot some fast-food bags and newspaper. A surprisingly beautiful exhibition of works made from a fairly mundane medium.
The Spirit of Utopia: Whitechapel Gallery – Month of August
An exhibition that asks the eternal question “what if?”. How would our society look if we had a different relationship with the economy? The environment? With society itself? Ten artists and artists collective visually display their answers.
