Over the course of one day you can visit Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre and explore the lives of three seminal jazz musicians in acclaimed films. With your magic ticket you can get entry to eight hours of the London Jazz Festival’s Feast of Jazz Film. Moreover during the day there will be further extra and special moments… So, BrokeinLondon has two pair of tickets to give away to two lucky winners! Michel Petrucciani: – Starting time: 8pm
Michael Radford’s eloquent tribute to the unquenchable spirit and legacy of the late French pianist Michel Petrucciani who, despite suffering from a genetic disease that stunted his growth and weakened his bones, played with astounding vigour and enthusiasm and became known as one of the greatest jazz pianists. Michel Petrucciani’s story is one of the power of creativity to overcome pain and suffering. He is an inspiration to millions of people. Upon his death at the age of 36; he was honoured by the French people and buried next to Chopin at Pere Lachaise Cemetery in  Paris.

Sonny Rollins: Beyond The Notes – Starting time: 5pm
Dick Fontaine’s affectionately realised documentary, built around the explosive energy of Sonny’s 80th Birthday Concert in New York, makes imaginative use of archive material as well as extensive live footage to delve into the life and philosophy of an artist who single-handedly personifies the post war evolution of jazz.

The Sonny Rollins concert in the London Jazz Festival is sold out, but The Green Man has a two-day celebration of his classic album ‘The Bridge’ on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 November.

Barbara Thompson: Playing Against Time – Starting time: 2pm
Virtuoso saxophonist/composer Barbara Thompson has been a force on the European jazz scene for over four decades. Playing Against Time is a feature-length film, directed by Michael Dibb – an inspirational document of Barbara’s extraordinary struggle with Parkinson’s disease whilst maintaining her life as a creative artist.

In a linked event, saxophonist Trish Clowes plays the music of Barbara Thompson in a London Jazz Festival concert, produced by Basho Music, on Thursday 15 November at St James Piccadilly.
