38 race teams, East West live music stage, East Asian food festival

London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival returns to the London Regatta Centre on Sunday 28th June. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Europe’s most spectacular dragon boat racing event will also hosts a live music stage featuring emerging talent from both east and west and a sumptuous pan-Asian food festival.

The event is free to the public and perfect for families with over 7 hours of dragon boat racing in the inland waterway by the Thames formerly known as Royal Albert Docks. The charity event is organised by London Chinatown Lions in association with the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, The Hong Kong Executives Club and the London Chinatown Chinese Community Centre and offers a window into the world of Chinese culture in London.

Apart from being one of London’s most popular waterside cultural festivals, with live music, food and entertainment, the racing schedule is as busy as ever. 38 teams have signed up to compete for 4 cups this year, with a mix of entrants from absolute beginners to professional paddlers with community and corporate groups of 20 paddlers and one drummer per boat taking part.

Highlights of the East West Festival stage and the Cultural stage – presented by Spectrum Radio’s DJ Alice, include amazing dancer Kieran Lai, a Britain’s Got Talent Semi-Finalist and BBC Young Dancer of the Year Grand Finalist. He will be joined by Voice contestant Luciee, pop trio Vanquish, Hong Kong DJ Mi Key and the Jeffrey Alexander School of Martial Arts performing Tai chi, Chi Kung, Shaolin, Wing Chun and Kung Fu.

The Tastes of South East Asia food festival includes tasty offerings from Chinese restaurant Yi-Ban, Ayam Happy’s Indonesian satays, Banh M1 11’s Vietnames crusty baguettes, Korrito’s Korean BBQ meets Mexican burrito from Boxpark in Shoreditch, Thai cuisine from Newdlez Pad, pan-Asian foodstall Pitstop Cafe,  Taste of Vietnam, The Duck Truck, The Everybody Love Love Jhalmuri Express, Yu Kyu’s Japanese tonkatsu sandwiches, Malaysian kitchen: Enak Enak, Churros London and Jayda’s Ices.

A raffle draw with fantastic prizes including a pair of return flights to Hong Kong courtesy of Cathay Pacific and dinner for two at Hutong at The Shard will be on offer on the day.
